TWO GREAT REVIEWS ON THE SUPERB NEW MDP500 (G6)
There has already been more positive feed-back from Myryad users about the new MDP500 G6 than about any previous product, so it’s hardly surprising that the first reviews published should echo that sentiment.
“With a perpetually faultless display,
the MDP500 G6’s role at the heart of a home cinema system is one to
savour”
That was the headline in the leading British ‘home theatre’ magazine, Essential Home Cinema, which awarded it 5 stars and a ’Best Buy’, adding:
- the G6 upgrade takes this preamplifier to a whole new level; the new DSP module delivers a whole canyon of decoding potential
- the minimal intrusion of manual controls and the smart black band housing the blue-lit LCD maintains the almost effortless air of style and elegance that encompasses the whole Myryad range
- the signal was always crystal clear and sharp enough to burst balloons. The bass management system also does a great job of integrating the low-level sounds by allowing the subwoofer to use its own filtering system
- if you’re serious about home cinema and demand the best audio performance at this price, the MDP500 G6 is worth every penny
“beyond excellent!”
And this was the headline in April’s Home Entertainment magazine, awarding the MDP500(G6) 5 stars. Says it all really, doesn’t it! But, not content to leave it at that, it went on:
- At last, a 7.1 processor that doesn’t play two-channel music at a sub-standard level – the G6 actually handles stereo CDs (through analogue inputs) like a die-hard, hi-fi pre-amplifier that’s never heard of surround sound. Its performance is clean, detailed and dynamic, with a wide and stunningly three-dimensional soundstage that makes you wonder why you need any more channels.
- However, it becomes clear as soon as you slip in a multi-channel disc. This processor plays sounds honestly, cleanly and with less of a self-imposed character than any component at this price deserves to.
- When you casually sit through all four discs of the Lord of the Rings box set, and then reach for the Godfather trilogy, you know you’re using a high quality, impressive product.
- This processor’s sonic performance places it right at the top table of AV gear, alongside the sort of competition that costs considerably more. It’s really that good!
THE VERDICT:
- The MDP500(G6) positively revels in its lack of extraneous facilities. All you get is all you need for music and movies. Simplicity at its best.
- Words really cannot describe how good this product is in both two- and multi channel modes. It’s beyond excellent!
- The minimalist front panel and heavy-button remote make the MDP500 less easy to run, but it’s not very difficult to use either.
- Do you need all those surplus features when the sound is what matters? If not, you’ve saved money and bought the Myryad.
OVERALL:
The MDP500(G6) is a stunning upgrade on a processor that really cuts the musical mustard and sounds excellent in cinema modes too. The Myryad really is worth every penny.
