The G6’s DSP module delivers a whole raft of new processing features, including:
Dolby Digital EX 6.1/7.1 channel processing of Dolby Digital Surround EX material
DTS-ES Matrix 6.1 6.1/7.1 channel processing of DTS-ES Matrix material
DTS Neo:6 6.1/7.1 channel processing of DTS 3/2.1 material and synthesis from 2-channel material in Neo:6 Cinema or Music Mode
DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 6.1/7.1 channel processing of DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 material
Dolby Pro-Logic II Movie mode for processing sources encoded in Dolby Surround and Music mode (with surround parameter adjustments) for processing any 2-channel music or other sources – each to produce 5.1 channel surround sound.
Surround 6.1 Offering 6.1/7.1 channel processing of any 5.1 encoded material.

The upgraded system offers 24bit/96kHz analogue-digital and digital-analogue converters for all channels, radically improving analogue stereo performances. Frequency response is up on the original MDP500 from 20kHz to 40kHz, with an increased signal-to-noise ratio of around 6dB. All digital inputs (coax and optical) can now accept 24bit/96kHz bitstreams.

The MDP500 G6 also features improved ‘synthesised’ surround modes, maintaining only the most useful ones, Natural and Party. Dolby Pro Logic II Music mode decoding allows user adjustment of ‘panorama’, ‘centre width’ and ‘dimension’ settings. In DTS Neo:6 Music mode the “centre image” control allows the imaging to be balanced for off-centre listeners.

The G6 further enhances the MDP500’s enviable reputation as one of the most custom install-friendly units currently available, with a whole host of new control functions:

  • the MDP500 (G6) can be set up using the RS-232 control interface. Current settings may also be downloaded using the RS-232. This makes for quicker installation and enables the installer to keep a back-up of the installation settings – even those set “manually”.
  • the remote trigger can now be activated by any one of a variety of new sources, including: dimmed display; selection of any one of the six “video” inputs, or the presence of a specific type of video signal – in addition to all the options available on the current model. This provides much greater flexibility in setting up installed systems.
  • the subwoofer low-pass filter (as set by the bass management system) can be defeated, so the subwoofer’s own filtering may be used instead.
  • analogue input sensitivities are now adjustable in 1dB steps from -5dB to +10dB to accommodate a wider range of analogue stereo source levels.
  • an Analogue Monitor feature now gives a bar-graph peak-reading display of the input signal level on the OSD – so the user is able to check the signal level of any source and optimise the analogue input sensitivity to prevent possible overload.
  • loudspeaker distances can be entered directly in metres or feet.
A G6 upgrade kit, fittable by any qualified Myryad dealer, is also now available to owners of the original MDP500. Contact your Myryad dealer for details.
