MDP500 Stereophile Guide to Home Theatre Nov’ 00 Exclusive Review
“With DVD as the primary source, the sound had clarity, openness, crisp transients and a generally neutral tonal balance that leaned just slightly towards brightness. Speaking voices were reproduced without excessive sibilance, and well-recorded 5.1 soundtracks had a convincing sense of sonic envelopment and discreete directional effects. Music itself, as part of a sound-track or from a CD, was reproduced with accurate tonal balance, good timbral accuracy, and appropriate dynamics. While it’s hard to know what the future holds for DVD-A and SACD, Myryad’s inclusion of a high-quality 7.1-channel analog path goes a long way toward ensuring that Myryad owners won’t be left behind by changes in technology. Myryad Systems’ stated objective is to create and market products that provide “outstanding performance, graceful aesthetics, first-class reliability, and exceptional value for money”. With the MDP500, I’d say they’ve met that goal. “
MDP500 Widescreen Review Sep’ 00 Exclusive Review
“My initial impression of the Myryad’s sonic reproduction was that the tonal values were exemplary, and from listening to 5.1 channel source material the sound had an impressive neutral character. This neutrality would lend especially well when listening to movies at reference level, and I found that re-equalization was seldom a necessity. In my opinion, these observations make this unit a noteworthy candidate for quality film sound reproduction….. The Myryad’s performance compared particularly favourably to the Lexicon MC-1…… with the Myryad actually having a slightly enhanced bass presence over the MC-1…. For the home theatre enthusiast who is looking to make an entry into high-end audio, the MDP500 should be a strong contender,,,. Substantial value for the money. “
